Meeting Notes 3/15/2017

Wednesday, March 15, 2017
The meeting started promptly at 7:05am and our guests included Juraj Gago and his friend and his brother from Slovakia. Our other guest speaker was Rev. Keith Draper from World Relief.

World Relief
The organization is one of 9 in the US who is bringing in refugees from all over the world. They have offices in Wheaton and Aurora. The current administration has put the limit of 50,000 refugees being admitted into the US. Soon there will be a 120 day stop on all incoming as the vetting process is analyzed. World Relief is a Christian organization and even as funding has been cut other churches and businesses have stepped up to help. As people arrive into the US they have nothing so they also accept donations of all sorts to help refugees get started in the US.

Juraj Gago
Juraj has been travelling all over the world since he returned home. The trips included hitchhiking from London and back to Slovakia. Along with a friend of his he has written an inspirational book for young adults. The book is a best seller in Slovakia and he has the opportunity to meet the President of Slovakia to talk about his book. They are currently looking for help in publishing the book in English in the US. As each book has sold they have donated one tree per book to be planted in Slovakia. Juraj has also started a marketing company with a partner in the US. The young man has been up to many things and it was great to see how he has taken his experiences and put them to use to help others.

Chloe Update
Chloe spent last Saturday (thanks to her awesome host parents who took her to the train at 6 am) where she saw the river get dyed green for St Patricks Day. She then met up with some other in-bounds and they watched the parade in Chicago.
Badminton season has started and at this point it is mostly practice.

Patricia Update
Patricia has been cleared for sports after a concussion and she is also on the badminton team at WAHS.
