He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealing with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.

RYLA Update

The students, including candidates for next year, spent the weekend in Wisconsin at RYLA. All of the kids said that the event was incredible and they learned so much about themselves. Lorenz said it best when he said that it was a life changing moment for him. The exercises that they all do are designed to get everyone in a situation to rely on each other, push themselves beyond their comfort zone, and training for them to be stronger leaders. Laura climbed the rock wall and at one point she felt she couldn’t go on. Everyone encouraged her to keep going and she made it to the top.

Youth Update

Sue gave the out-bound update for 2015-2016 and it is looking like 14 district 6450 students will be going out with 7 coming out of Aurora. We are once again going to have 2 in-bound in our club and Chris is looking for 4 other clubs to take on in-bounds.

Programs

Next week Mike Newton will tell us about Alexander Hamilton

Oct 29th – We are going to try and skype with Juraj and Eric Dominguez

This week Lorenz told us all about his home town, Aarau Switzerland. It is a town of about 20,000 people and it is located in north central Switzerland. There is a big chocolate factory and food distribution center in town.

Switzerland, although small, has 4 different languages spoken there, German, French, Italian and Roman. Lorenz started learning English when he was in 3rd grade.

The school system is set up different than here with 5 years of grade school, 4 years of middle school that are mandatory. Then they are split up into 3 different levels depending on their test scores and desired future.

The national sport of Switzerland is skiing and Lorenz started when he was 3 years old. At home are his parents and a younger brother. His dad is a psychiatrist and his mom is a dermatologist.

Thank you Lorenz for sharing with us and we are glad to have you here.

Wine and Chocolate

Tim is taking a leave from the club and the new committee has shaped to be Karen, Joe, Tom, Rich and Jack. More information and donation letters will be coming soon.

Happy Dollar$

Brian wasn’t here this morning so Joe took on Sargent at Arms duties. Not many happy moments but at least the Bears had a thrilling victory last week.

50/50

Wow Joel gave someone else a chance at winning the pot this week which was $224. Joe had the winning ticket, Joel held the cards as Joe drew the 6 of clubs. Shouldn’t have let “mister never finish the job” hold the cards.
