October 8, 2014

It’s not my 42nd birthday...it’s my 21st birthday’s 21st birthday.---Dr. Joel Huffman

We celebrated many birthdays this morning including Joel, Chris and Kelly. The crowd had a rousing rendition of the happy birthday song!

Visiting Rotarians and Guests

Scott Thurman – Aurora Noon Club

Jose Castaneda – 2015-2016 outbound candidate from WAHS who hopes to go to Iceland

Michelle Castaneda – Jose’s sister and ride

Amairin Dominguez – 2015-2016 outbound candidate from WAHS who hopes to go to Switzerland. Seeing as how she was Lorenz’ homecoming date, I wonder why she chose Switzerland.

Hannah Olson – 2013-2014 rebound who spent her year in Columbia

Lorraine Del Torro – Laura’s host mom

Kevin King – Guest of Joe Kosner and potential member

Youth News

District interviews went well and it looks like there will be 14 out of 24 going out and 5 of those from Aurora. November 1st is the deadline for turning in applications.

RYLA is this weekend and the inbound and potential outbounds will be spending the weekend in Williams Bay Wisconsin doing team building and freezing their butts off. Good luck with that Laura!

Lorenz and Laura participated in the Plainfield parade Saturday with the Plainfield Rotary Club. They threw candy to the kids and enjoyed the first early snow. Laura was freezing and we are quick to reminder her that she hasn’t seen anything yet.

Laura will be singing in the choir next Wednesday 7pm at WAHS so let’s get out there and support her.

Other News

Wine and Chocolate event is coming up January 25th and we need to start thinking about sponsorships and auction items. Karen will get us a packet in the next couple of weeks.

Upcoming Programs

October 15th – Lorenz will tell us about his life in Switzerland

October 22nd – Mike Newton a historian who will tell us about Alexander Hamilton

Today’s Program

Laura shared with us all about her home town Bogota Columbia. A city of 8 million people located in central Columbia and surrounded by mountains. There are many attractions including a Salt Church located in salt mines 200 meters below the earth.

Laura shared with us that she enjoys dancing and acting, although she didn’t dance for us today, as well as cheerleading for her school and competition team. Laura attends an all girls school and she graduated last year. She also told us about the food in Columbia and she promised to cook something for us in the near future.

Laura’s parents are both dentists and she has 2 older sisters who are going to journalism school.

Laura thanks for telling us about your home and we are lucky to have you here.

Happy Buck$

Tom had a great trip in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Brian was worried about the strain it could place on him at his tender age.

Charlie and Mary went on a trip to Budapest and Vienna taking in the sights along the way.

Kelly went to Germany to see her daughter and to take in the sights in Amsterdam and Vienna

Chris was happy that the interviews went well for the 2015-2016 outbounds

50/50

The pot is over $200 and the winning ticket was pulled by old whats his face bald president guy. Of course he didn’t pull the Joker and we are all kind of upset that he keeps getting the chance, but never comes through. Nobody paid attention to which card he pulled because we knew he wouldn’t have the winner anyway. Better luck next time Joel, NOT!
